Sinar Mas traces its roots back to October 3, 1938, when Eka Tjipta Widjaja, then known as Oei Ek Tjhong and just 15 years old, embarked on his entrepreneurial journey peddling biscuits and candies on a bicycle throughout the bustling streets of Makassar, South Sulawesi. Despite only having completed elementary school, he firmly believes in the possibility of realizing all hopes and dreams.
Guided by the principles of honesty, credibility, and responsibility, both in his professional endeavors and within his familial and social spheres, Eka Tjipta Widjaja's life was defined by these values, whether he was navigating the world of business or fulfilling his role in society and family life.
Over time, Sinar Mas has evolved into eight Business Pillars spanning various industries, all united by shared corporate values and an intertwined history. Nonetheless, each entity operates independently, implementing its sustainable management practices.
These foundational principles have been distilled into Sinar Mas's core values: Integrity, Positive Attitude, Commitment, Continuous Improvement, Innovation and Loyalty.
Demonstrating a commitment to social responsibility, initiatives established prior have been consolidated under the Eka Tjipta Foundation since 2006.
